We should’ve been celebrating
We were celebrating – 1000 signups. That number felt HUGE. We sent messages. We made plans. Imagined the wave that was coming next.
But then?
Quiet.
No influx of users. No buzz. Just… stillness. A lot of new accounts – and almost nobody logging back in.
We stared at the data, refreshed the dashboard, and asked ourselves what on earth had gone wrong? Did people forget? Did the platform break? Did we miss something?
Turns out, we weren’t alone. When we looked into it, we learned something humbling and strangely comforting: this is normal. In the world of software, it’s not unusual for only 5% of sign-ups to actually become active users. Most tools get ghosted. A lot.
Still, we didn’t even hit 1%.
So, the celebration turned into introspection.
We realised we’d fallen into the trap of thinking the hardest part was getting people through the door. But the real work – the important work – starts when they arrive. That tiny window of opportunity, when someone gives you their attention for a moment… it matters more that we thought.
And yeah, maybe we didn’t earn it.
But here’s the good news: now we know.
We know it’s on us on to make insite feel different from the moment you land. To not just expect users to get it, but to help them see what it could be for them. To listen more closely. To show, not tell. To design better flows, better messages, better questions.
Because if even a handful of people do stay – we want that experience to be magical. That small group is precious. And that trust they give us is something we plan to earn, not assume.
This wasn’t failure. It was a wake-up call.
And now, we’re wide awake.
